Taking dog abroad the UK you may use special pet transport services. Here we will mention some rules of UK transport companies for dog transporting. The rules differ depending on the destination country.

Taking Dog Abroad UK to Europe

When taking a pet to Europe, you are to remember the following instructions.
Required documents:

• Pet Passport with confirmation of microchip insertion.

• Vaccination against rabies at least 21 days prior to shipment (if the dog is at least 12 weeks of age).

• The health certification which appears on page 28 of the UK Passport booklet.

• All details must entered into the Pet Passport by an OV Veterinary Surgeon (Official Veterinarian of DEFRA).
  

Rabies serology tests are no longer required for animals which return to the UK.

Taking Dog Abroad to Cyprus:
Greek Cyprus

Your dog passport must contain the following information:

• microchip details

• vaccination against rabies at least 21 days prior to export (if the pet is at least 12 weeks old)

• a health certificate indicating the animal is fit to travel between 1 and 5 days prior to export.
  

• certification in the passport covering a treatment for tapeworm, however, we strongly recommend you obtain certification indicating the dog has been treated for both fleas/ticks and worms about 24 hours prior to shipment as this speeds up the processes of inspection and clearance on arrival in Larnaca or Paphos. Pet transporting company can attend to all of these treatments if required.
  

• Your pet may be subject to a veterinary inspection on arrival in Cyprus and if so, there will also be a fee payable to the Cypriot Government.
  

• A residential address and telephone number is required before the airline will confirm the flight reservation for a pet.

Turkish Republic of Nothern Cyprus

• Dogs require an import permit and may be subject to up to a 30 day quarantine period in a Government Establishment. Owners are expected to feed and clean their own pets in the quarantine station.
  

• Dogs must be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies when they are at least 3 months old and must have a rabies blood test at least 30 days after the vaccination prior to entry into Turkish Cyprus.
  

• A DEFRA Export Health Certificate is required for entry into Turkish Cyprus and this must be signed by an LVI Veterinary Surgeon.
  

• In addition to this, there are currently no airlines who can carry pets into Turkish Cyprus, which means they must travel into Larnaca or Paphos and so must also comply with the regulations for entry into Southern (Greek) Cyprus prior to shipment. Pets then must travel onwards by road to the final destination. There are border inspection protocols in place for this which must be adhered to but we do have agents available in both Turkish and Southern Cyprus who can assist you with this if required.
  

• A residential address and telephone number is required before the airline will confirm the flight reservation for a pet.
  

• For dogs and cats returning to the UK, please note Turkish Cyprus is an unlisted country so the protocols must be followed precisely in order for pets to enter the UK without quarantine. The following procedure must be carried out in the order listed:- Your dog/cat must be implanted with a microchip of ISO Standards. Your dog/cat must have a vaccination against rabies when the pet is at least 12 weeks old. A rabies antibody blood test (also referred to as rabies serology or RNATT) must be undertaken on your pet at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination and the blood test must have been taken at least 3 months prior to the travel date or release from quarantine, whichever is applicable. DOGS ONLY - A tapeworm treatment must be administered by a Vet not less than 24 hours and not more than 120 hours (1-5 days) before its scheduled arrival time in the UK. There is no longer a mandatory requirement for tick treatment. Dogs that are not fully compliant with the correct entry protocols will be eligible to complete the time period under short-term quarantine restrictions.
  

Taking Dog Abroad UK to USA

There are no compulsory vaccinations, blood tests or treatments required for dogs and cats to enter the USA.

• The only document required is a Veterinary Certificate of Health issued within 7 days of shipment.

• However, we strongly advise that the dog is vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days prior to the date of export.

• Pets must not be shipped to arrive in the United States on a Saturday or Sunday.�

• There is no quarantine for dogs and cats entering the U.S.A. or Canada from the United Kingdom.
  

Taking Dog Abroad UK to Canada

For dogs entering Canada:

• a rabies vaccination should be given at least 30 days before export.
  

• Also required is a veterinary certificate of health issued no more than 5 days prior to shipment.
  

Taking Dog Abroad UK to Australia

Pets entering Australia require quarantine. Quarantine stations are located in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. For animals destined for Brisbane quarantine will take place in Sydney and for Adelaide quarantine in Melbourne and pet transport companies have agents in Australia that will help with the onwards journey after quarantine. Pre-shipment veterinary work can be undertaken by their (the company) own Veterinary Surgeons including blood tests, DEFRA Export Health Certificates and parasite treatments.

Taking Dog Abroad UK to South Africa

All dogs entering South Africa must have:

• Microchip.

• Vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days and not more than 12 months prior to shipment.
  

• Series of blood tests within 30 days of shipments

• Series of medication for heartworm following the blood test with the first treatment undertaken in the U.K. prior to shipment, and then a further 6 months being administered in South Africa after arrival.

• The owner of the dog must sign a declaration stating they are in receipt of this course of treatment and will administer it as directed by their Veterinary Surgeon.

• A DEFRA Export Health Certificate is required which must be issued by an L.V.I Veterinary Surgeon and signed not more than 10 days prior to shipment.

Taking Dog Abroad UK to Middle East

Bahrain

• An Import Permit from the Kingdom of Bahrain is required prior to shipment.
  

• Dogs must have been vaccinated twice against rabies with the 1st vaccination being undertaken at least 30 days and no more than 6 months prior to the date of shipment.
  

• A DEFRA Export Health Certificate must be completed by an LVI (Official Veterinarian of DEFRA) within 48 hours of shipment.
  

• Dogs must have been vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis and parvovirus at least 30 days but not more than 6 months prior to export.
  

Dubai, Abu Dhabi UAE

• An Import Permit is required prior to shipment, and if you are shipping your pet through a definite pet transport company, then it can assist you by obtaining the Import Permit through its agents in the UAE. To obtain this permit, the following documents must be submitted with the application:�

1. Copy of the owner's passport and work or residence visa.

2. The microchip registration certificate for your pet.
   

3. All pets must be at least 4 months of age before being granted entry into UAE. For dogs, a current vaccination certificate showing rabies, distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, and parvovirus (R & DHLPPi) is also required.
   

4. All vaccinations must be undertaken at least 21 days and not more than 12 months prior to entry into UAE.
   

5. There are no blood tests required for shipping dogs and cats from the UK.
   

6. A DEFRA veterinary health certificate must be issued by an LVI (Local Veterinary Inspector of DEFRA) 48 hours prior to shipment, together with a tick and tapeworm treatment.
   

7. Some breeds of dogs are banned from entry into UAE, so please check with pet transport office for the current prohibited breeds.

Qatar

• An Import Permit from Qatar is required prior to shipment of pets

• A DEFRA Export Health Certificate issued by an LVI Veterinary Surgeon (Official Veterinarian of DEFRA) not more than 48 hours prior to shipment.
  

• Dogs must have been vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis and parvovirus and cats must be vaccinated against cat flu and feline enteritis at least 30 days prior to export.
  

• All animals must have been resident in the U.K. for the six months prior to shipment or since birth.
  

Saudi Arabia

• A rabies vaccination is required at least 30 days and not more than 12 months prior to export.
  

• A DEFRA Export Health Certificate which must be completed by an LVI Veterinary Surgeon (Official Veterinarian of DEFRA) not more than 96 hours prior to shipment.
  

• All documents must be legalised by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and also by the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in London prior to shipment. Transport companies may have an account with the FCO and so be able to attend to this on your behalf.
  

• An Import Permit is also required prior to shipment and this can only be obtained once the legalized documents are forwarded to an agent in KSA.
  

• Dogs must be imported as guard dogs to protect their owner's property and some breeds are banned so please check the list with the transport company that you choose to assist.

Kuwait

• From Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources in Kuwait an Import Permit� is required prior to shipment.
  

• Dogs and cats must have a DEFRA Export Health Certificate required issued by an LVI Veterinary Surgeon (Official Veterinarian of DEFRA) not more than 48 hours prior to shipment.
  

• These documents must be legalised by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and also by the Kuwaiti Embassy in London prior to shipment.
  

• Some pet transport companies have an account with the FCO and so are able to attend to this on your behalf.
  

Sultanate of Oman

• An Import Permit is required from the Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries in Muscat prior to shipment.
  

• Dogs must be over 4 months of age and have a DEFRA Export Health Certificate issued by an LVI Veterinary Surgeon (Official Veterinarian of DEFRA) not more than 48 hours prior to shipment.
  

• Vaccination against rabies at least 30 days and no more than 11 months at the time of export.
  

• Vaccinations against distemper, leptospirosis and parvovirus at least 30 days and not more than 12 months prior to the date of shipment.
  

Exporting pets to China

• Dogs must be identified by a microchip or a tattoo in the animals ear.

• Dogs must be vaccinated against Rabies, Distemper and Parvo Virus and cats must be vaccinated against Rabies, Cat Flu and Feline Enteritis. These inoculations must be done at least 30 days and no more than 12 months prior to export.
  

• The vaccination details must be entered into a vaccination certificate and also on to the DEFRA Export Health Certificate.�

• Although the Chinese Veterinary Authorities have not specified which conditions the pre export isolation should meet, LVI Veterinary Surgeons should ensure that the animal is held at the owners U.K. residence for 30 days and does not have the opportunity to come into contact with any other animals not similarly certifiable during this isolation period.
  

• A declaration must be produced by the owner to the effect that the animal has shown no signs of illness during this period. In addition to examining the animal/s prior to entering the pre isolation period the premises as well must be inspected and the animal inspected after approximately 15 days isolation. The dog can be held during the isolation period if required at pet transporting company Kennels and Cattery in Colchester.

• Within 30 days of shipment the dog must be treated for ticks and worms using approved products such as Frontline and Drontal. During the 30 days prior to shipment dogs must be treated against Leptospirosis two times and 14 days apart using dihydrostreptomycin at 25mg per kilo live body weight. A DEFRA Export Health Certificate is required for dogs and cats entering China, and this certificate must be signed by an L.V.I (Local Veterinary Inspector) within 24 hours of shipment.�

• A certificate must be supplied by Par Air Services stating the animal will be transported from the isolation premises in a container and vehicle previously cleaned and disinfected using a DEFRA approved product.�

• Dogs can only enter at Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou. (On arrival at Beijing there is 30 days home quarantine, at Shanghai 7 days home quarantine, and Guangzhou no quarantine.)
  

• One pet per person's passport allowed. Pets can only clear customs on arrival providing the person collecting the animal at the airport of arrival has the same name that appears on the documentation used to transport the animal.
