How to choose the right size dog collar? Example: You need to buy a collar for an adult German Shepherd with a neck size of 20 inches (and your dog never gets haircuts). In this case choose a collar which will fit a 20 inch neck size. It will have the size 20 in at the central hole. The collar will have an adjustment range of 18-22 inches. The first hole will be at about to 18 inches and last hole will be close to 22 inches. The dog collar has a total of 5 adjustment holes.
What size dog collar for puppy? If you wish it to serve you as long as possible and be maximum adjustable for larger sizes, add 2 inches to puppy neck size.
Example: Your dog is 8 month old mastiff with neck size 20 in. You wish a collar to be adjustable and suit your growing puppy as long as possible. If its neck size is 20 in at the moment, add 2 inches to puppy neck size and you will get the correct size. Thus you will get collar size 22 in with adjustments for 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 inches.
